A fruit derived from the cultivation of vineyards in the characteristic terrasings of Langhe hills. Preserved for a long time, these terrasings have been created by men in the previous centuries and now it is possible to find all these dry-stone walls; they create limited spaces on which the vine is cultivated. Few rows, which compose small portions of vineyards, called “heroic vineyards”, because all the works are manually: from the cultivation of soil using hoe, to copper sulphate-based and sulphur treatments made with an old machine placed on shoulders. Also for the grapes, they are carried on their shoulders because no works can be mechanized.
The work of man becomes essential not only for the cultivation of the vine, but also for the conservation of territory, which offers an unique landscape with astonishing views. A particular area, which deserves to be protected and safeguarded and also to be rediscovered and valued. The hard work of man is justifiable according to the love and the attachments of people to these areas. The fruits picked and the advantages are not in proportion to the hard work and the sweat necessary in this cultivation. The grape derived from these vineyards is the Dolcetto, it belongs to DOC Dolcetto d’Alba or DOC Langhe Dolcetto.
	According to a self-regulation code, the producers have to follow very restrictive rules for producing grapes and using the denomination “I TERRAZZAMENTI” (the terracings). In particular the yield is reduced to 65 quintal/hectare (the same for the production of the passiti) and the minimum alcoholic content is 12,5 degrees, a very low yield in order to have an excellent grape with natural alcoholic content for the wine. A pleasant wine, easy to drink everyday and is a good accompaniment for all meals. It displays an intense ruby red colour with tints of violet; with a good, winy and complex bouquet. In the mouth, it is full-bodied and well balanced. There is a project to create a protective “Consorzio”(an union of producers) for the safeguard and the enhancement of this product, which is the expression of this territory.
